2014 Range Rover Sport

Land Rover, the SUV d’elegance. From a single model back in 1948, Land Rover has evolved into the premier luxury truck manufacturer in Europe and the U.S.

The most recently released vehicle in the Land Rover line, the 2014 Range Rover Sport, was introduced at last week’s New York Auto Show. The Sport is a middle child in the Land Rover family, slightly smaller than the Range Rover base model and larger than the Evoque, Land Rover’s newest little brother.

Land Rover went back to the drawing board for the 2014 Sport by modifying, replacing or redesigning nearly every aspect of the vehicle. The ’14 will be leaner and quicker than this year’s sport and fuel-efficiency and comfort technologies played a huge role in design.

In regards to fuel-efficiency, the new Sport is a full 800 lbs lighter than the current model. Paired with a low-rev, 8-speed automatic transmission, Land Rover intends to prove that there are ways to save gas without conceding power or quickness.

The SUV will be powered by your choice of a supercharged 6-cylinder or 500+ horespower or supercharged V-8. The V-6 is new to the Sport and while it loses some horespower off the 2013, it is quicker off the line, making 0-60 about 0.5 second quicker.

The most amazing developments in the model, however, are in the comfort features. Start/stop technology is equipped in both engine sizes, saving gas in traffic by shutting off and restarting the engine. A foldable third row of seats has been added allowing more passenger space (even more impressive as 800 lbs was still reduced after adding more seats). Cameras around the vehicle alert the driver to dangers in front, behind and in the blind spots. Suspension controls allow the driver to react accordingly to changes in road conditions.  Cruise control will have an available option to not only maintain speed, but distance between traffic in front and behind. The vehicle even recognizes street signs and alerts accordingly. This impressive list merely scractches the surface of stock and additional features.

The 2014 Range Rover Sport will become available in the third quarter of this year.

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT

Jaguar was among the many brands to bring something new to the American table at last week’s New York International Auto Show. This car, however, stands out as an exciting new development for Jag and as inisght to the future of the company.

Jaguar is generally recognized as the perfect union between power and luxury with a slight lean towards comfortability. This XK offshot turns that model on its head and offers a street-legal, track-ready supercar that boasts performance from every angle.

The XKR-S is powered by a supercharged, 5.0L V-8 producing 540+ HP and over 500 ft-lbs of torque. The frame, suspension, turning and braking mechanisms are all modeled after the XK but modified and hand crafted to deliver the best possible responsiveness, agility, and of course, high speed. An on-board computer tops the car out at around 185 MPH, but unbridled there would be much more power to give.

Carbon fiber lines, visible ceramic brakes and decordated calipers and a taller-than-average spoiler accent the exterior. The interior is essentially a leather-bound cockpit with performance seating that forces the driver into an optimal position for handling this beast. Jaguar reps say every component of the vehicle serves to increase speed, downforce and responsiveness and reviewers agree that it delivers.

This will be a hyper-exclusive model in North America with only 25 cars in the U.S. and 5 in Canada and a base price is yet to be determined. Consider yourself among a lucky few to even see one on the street.
