Mercedes-Benz Introduces 2018 E-Class Coupe at 2017 Detroit Auto Show

The 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe puts comfort as a top priority without diminishing any of its predecessors’ best qualities.

The Mercedes-Benz team at Santa Barbara Auto Group is excited about the future of the E-Class after the brand released the model plan prior to the car’s public appearance at the Detroit Auto Show. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class has carved its place into the brand’s persona as the leader in luxury and comfort while lending the title of sportiest to its rivals. In this regard, the 2018 E-Class Coupe solidifies and bolsters that reputation, and even offers a sporty appeal as well.

“With its clear aesthetic lines, our new E-Class Coupe appeals equally to the heart and mind,” said Prof. Dr. Thomas Weber, member of board of management of Daimler AG and responsible for group research and Mercedes-Benz cars development. “It combines contemporary luxury, agile sportiness and high-tech engineering into an automotive personality with spirit, offering exclusive, refined driving pleasure.”

Spacious, Luxurious, and Powerful

The 2018 edition of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe is longer, wider, and taller than its predecessor. The coupe measures at 190-inches long (4.8 inches longer than the previous model), 73.2-inches wide (2.9-inches wider than before), and 1.3-inches taller at 56.3-inches. The extra space and comfort acquired by these additional few inches are substantial, especially in regards to rear legroom, front and rear shoulder room, as well as rear headspace. One of the more recognizable changes in the vehicle’s appearance is that the 2018 E-Class has dropped two of the doors. The now two-door Coupe has a more executive appearance with aesthetic lines flowing from front to back that subtly demand and inherently garner respect.

For the U.S. market, the E-Class Coupe will initially launch with the E400 and E400 4MATIC models. Powered by a 3.0-liter bi-turbo V6 engine with 329 horsepower and 354lb-ft of torque, the new E-Class will offer more in the power department than any of the previous models. Both the E400 and E400 4MATIC will come equipped with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission that pushes it from zero-to-60 mph in 5.2 seconds. In the technology department, the 2018 E-Class Coupe will introduce Mercedes-Benz’s next step to semi-autonomous driving, with the upgraded Drive Pilot system and Distance Pilot Distronic that, for the first time, can automatically follow vehicles in front of you up to a speed of 130 mph.
