Jaguar Keeps History Alive

A newly opened Heritage Business will maintain the largest-collection of British classic cars and restore Jaguars to their full glory

jaguarActions speak louder than words and Jaguar Land Rover has taken its stated commitment to history into action by purchasing the largest-known privately owned collection of British classic cars in the world.  Jaguar Land Rover is committed to protecting and nurturing the rich heritage of the Jaguar and the Land Rover brands and plans to use the collection to support and develop the brands and business in existing and emerging markets. In addition to the collection, Jaguar has created a Special Operations division that includes the Jaguar Heritage business. This division will develop and oversee the creation of special vehicles and the preservation of existing Jaguar vehicles.

British car enthusiast, James Hull, assembled the 543 mostly British class cars into a rare collection. Featuring significant Jaguar models including XK SS, C, D and E-types. In total Mr. Hull had over 130 Jaguars in his collection. The collection features several exotic and rare vehicles such as early Swallow Sidecars and Swallow coachbuilt Austin Sevens, plus a full and diverse range of pre-war SS models, 7 XK 120s – including a rare alloy-bodied example, C- and D-types, an XKSS, 8 E-types, 30 classic Jaguar ‘Mark’ model saloons plus 19 XJS models and over 20 XJ saloons with interesting and famous previous owners.  Another unique and outstanding feature is that the cars are all in outstanding condition. Many of the vehicles have deep and fascinating histories.

As a labor of love James Hull spent many years traveling the world to collect these numerous vehicles. Through a strong relationship with Jaguar Land Rover he decided that “They are the perfect custodians to take the collection forward and I know it is in safe hands.”

Special Operations

The location of the Heritage business is also deep with history. The Historic Browns Lane, Coventry site that will maintain the Jaguars in the recently acquired collection is less than a hundred yards from where the original E-type cars were assembled in 1963. This facility will offer warrantied servicing and restoration of Jaguar’s classic models.

Special Operations recently announced the ‘re-creation’ project to build six perfect reproductions of the original, race-bred Lightweight E-type. Originally created in 1963 with the objective of building 18 ‘Special GT E-type Cars’ only 12 were actually completed. Until now the six remaining chassis numbers have remained dormant. The new Lightweights will be hand-built by highly skilled Jaguar craftsmen.

Another Special Operations project that is currently underway is Project 7, which is a limited edition Jaguar F-Type inspired by the legendary D-type. Honoring the seven Le Mans victories scored by Jaguar and the 60th Anniversary of the creation of the D-type, Project 7 will be a combination of making and honoring Jaguar history.
